When Diesel Service Unit, or DSU, opened
in 1945, we didn't have much in the way of assets. In fact, our first
shop was set up under a tarp hung from a telephone pole. Aside from
fresh Oregon air, about all we could offer our early customers was the
30 years combined experience on trucks and diesel engines of our three
young mechanics.
But Wally Yost, Bill Prothero and Jim Montgomery had a philosophy of
doing business that caught on. It was this: "We'll treat every customer
as if we were the customer." Truck owners around the West came to know
that DSU is a uniquely personal company run for trucking people.
That early spirit continues Today, 6 decades later, Wally Yost's ideas
continue on. Wally as chairman of the Board, is supported by a team of
officers who are not new faces at DSU, for they have worked here for
many years, continuing to strive for the very highest customer
satisfaction. The officers of DSU are supported by managers that have
also grown with the company. So, new faces are not a problem for our
long-time customers. Our managers are supported by people working for
them which have also spent many years with DSU. It is the philosophy of
DSU to promote from within. Now, with approximately 200 employees, we at DSU
feel we are keeping up with the founders' idea of treating the customer
and the customer's needs, as if we were the customer. This great idea
has produced one of the best reputations in the trucking industry.
